Dr. Ken, a sitcom that aired on ABC from 2015 to 2017, was produced by Ken Jeong and featured him in the title role. And he had more in common with his character than just a name. Jeong was a full-time practicing surgeon for years before deciding to pursue acting and comedy full-time.
Jeong attended medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill after graduating from high school and completing his residency at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. While doing 90-hour shifts, he discovered comedy in college and then did small stand-up sets every few months. He relocated to Los Angeles to work at Kaiser Permanente, where he spent seven years treating patients.
